Troncones, a hidden gem on the Mexican Riviera, is a small village with year-round warm water and some of the best surfing in the world. Nestled between the Sierra Madre mountains and the Pacific Ocean, this seaside village boasts a welcoming spirit and a relaxed pace that harkens back to classic Mexican hideaways. With only 500 permanent residents, Troncones has managed to maintain a sense of isolation that is increasingly hard to find along the popular Mexican coast. Troncones is a surfer's paradise, with a diverse selection of waves, from quality beach breaks to river mouths, to reef breaks and world-class point breaks. The Troncones area offers ridable surf every day, thanks to its unique location in the middle of an open ocean bay called Petacalco Bay, receiving swell energy from both the northern and southern hemispheres. One of the most famous spots for surfing in Troncones is Troncones Point/Manzanillo Bay. Located on the north end of the Troncones development on Playa Manzanillo, it's a left-hand rock/reef that empties into deep water so it almost never closes out. The drop is steep and exciting, but the face really lies down once you leave the reef and hit deeper water. The ability level for Troncones Point/Manzanillo Bay is intermediate to advanced. La Saladita, a long left-hand rivermouth point break known to the surf industry as "Ubilam" (Malibu written backward), is another popular spot. It works best at low tide with a good south groundswell. The ability level for La Saladita is beginners on the inside, intermediate and up on the outside. One of the best point set-ups in the area is The Ranch, suited for both longboarding and shortboarding. The beach restaurant "Los Amigos" has excellent food, so you can grab a bite to eat after a long day of surfing. The ability level for The Ranch is intermediate to advanced. Troncones may not be as famous as some of the other surfing spots in the world, but that's what makes it so special. The waves here are perfect for all levels of surfers, from beginners to experts, and the uncrowded beaches mean that you can really enjoy the surf without any distractions. But Troncones is not just about surfing. It's also a place where you can find some of the most unique and memorable accommodations in the world. Whether you're looking for a boutique hotel or a glamping experience, Troncones has it all. One of my favourite places to stay in Troncones is the Casa Viva Troncones. This beachfront hotel is the perfect place to relax after a day of surfing. The rooms are beautifully decorated and offer stunning ocean views. And the best part? The hotel is committed to sustainability and has a solar-powered system that provides all the energy needed for the property. Another unique place to stay in Troncones is the Present Moment Retreat. This yoga and wellness center offers a range of programs, including yoga classes, meditation sessions, and healthy eating workshops. And if you're a surfer, you'll love the fact that they offer surf lessons as well. For a more rustic and adventurous experience, you can try the glamping option at Playa Viva. This eco-friendly resort offers luxurious tents and treehouses that are nestled in the beautiful nature of Troncones. The resort also has an organic farm and offers farm-to-table meals that are simply delicious. Troncones is a place where you can really disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with nature. Whether you're a surfer, a yogi, or just city dweller looking for a change of pace.
